Threadless Artist Shop

Again, I have not posted in a fair while, this is due in part to laziness, and work commitments but largely laziness.

At any rate, I was asked by Threadless to put together a clothing store as they were breaking into the Print-on-demand industry (market?). I liked the idea as Threadless is pretty well-known and has an awesome community so I thought it would be an amazing opportunity. I’d dabbled with Threadless in the past but not really got that involved due to by peeking approach to the internet at large.

AND SO! Just in time for the wrong of Christmas, here is The Murphed Store!

At the moment I have come up with a brand tee, and repatriated a bunch of older designs to the Murphed brand. I am planning on putting together some fresh work to try and strengthen things up.

The current roster in includes:

Murphed TShirt Model

The Murphed Tee! Available in a multitude of different colours. Somebody bought it in black who used to live opposite the military estate I used to live on.

Eggs men Model

The Eggs-Men! My personal favourite.

Triangular Model

Triangular! This looks simple but took a long time to get right..

Bulbous MODEL2

Bulbous! I am pretty much just pleased with the name.. The illustration is pretty amazing too!

Anyways, I am glad 2016 is coming to a close, it’s not been particularly easy for me so I am looking forward to the opportunities that 2017 will hopefully bring – I have a big plan which I sincerely hope pans out.

SO I will take the opportunity to wish everybody a very happy and prosperous and merry and sparkling and jiggy and dope-eo New Year! I hope all your wishes come to pass.

Until next time!

Cheers,

 Eggs-Men – Now a reality!

It has been a long time we have last spoken, thats my fault and I don’t want you blaming yourself. Not for one minute. Half a minute I’m OK with.

So I always meant to redo this piece as I was never 100% happy with it but I just never got around to it and so after being invited to open a store withThreadless’s Artist Shop’s I was convinced today to release it as is and it is now available to buy. To be honest I’ve had the store languishing for quite a while and wasn’t until recently that I came up with it’s name – Murphed and put together a mark. I was super keen to incorporate my name into the brand so at the moment I am happy with how it has come out.

To give a bit of interesting information, the piece was done with my dip pen on bristol board and scanned and the coloured using the same colours for Marvel’s comics in the 60’s to give it a retro feel. I was planning on messing around with halftones when I redid it, maybe I will try that in the future but don’t hold your breath people. The t-shirt is yellow, I have stuck with that colour since I used the colour of the garment to colour Wolverine’s hood as well as Cyclops’s eye band thing.

So below are a couple of images and below that a link to where you can buy your very own t-shirt. The design is also available for women and children.

ILLUSTRATED 2015

So in May I took part in the Illustrated 2015 group show in London’s Brick Lane, and now I’m making some kind of actual effort to put it on here.. two months later.

For those not familiar with Brick Lane (or indeed reading any of this), it’s an über-trendy part of London which used to feature an amazing selection of shops which have all pretty now closed down now. But theres a Rough Trade record store there. The show itself was held in one of the rooms in The Trumen Brewery where a lot of these kinds of events take place.

The outside was provided by Lost Souls crew, who put this piece together.

For the work itself, I had been insanely busy so this was cleverly left at the last minute. So to give an interesting insight into knocked out work, I put a bunch of sketches together.

Sketchbook

And then drew and painted them up. I didn’t actually take any photos of that which,m as I’m writing this drivel, would have been a stellar idea in retrospect.Anyway if anybody has actually managed to get this far without killing yourself, I pencilled them up and then painted them with Montana Acrylic markers which a) I haven’t used before and b) forgot how to use effectively. It wasn’t until the actual show that I remembered my technique. Anyway as it all turned out I had one week to get these from my crazy mind to sketchbook and then to cardboard, painted, inked and then finally on the wall.

I bought a whole tonne of cardboard since the stuff I scrounged for free from some TV place in High Wycombe was single layer and therefore useless, so I ordered some double layer cardboard and used that instead. It wasn’t expensive so don’t worry. Additionally, I bought a new Winsor & Newton Kolinsky sale brush which was very expensive and which I have now lost.

Heres how it all turned out. Again in retrospect I clearly should have taken considerably more photos of the venue and perhaps of Marc and Blaine who were behind the whole shindig.

The day was split into two days, the first was the Industry Day where a great many industry insiders like Creative Directors, Record Labels, Magazine Publishers etc, were invited to attend and out of those invited absolutely nobody attended. The second day was the Public Day although since no professionals turned on day one, the public were able to attend and the public were the focus on day two.

So there we go, it wasn’t the most successful show of my career but considerably better than the last, which would not be very difficult. I met a bunch of cool artists, Just, Jenkins 3D, Zhenia Vasilev, Marcus Reed and Anna Rewinska.

Feel free to say hello! And why not like this and visit my site below… it’ll be lots of fun, I promise.

Cheers,

It’s Not Custard

I actually had a fairly positive response to my last post (I have to try and come up with my own terminology for this stuff) so I’m going to coast the wave of success with another.

I recently did some work on some concept art for a It’s Not Custard. It’s Not Custard is a short film following the life of Louise and her daily struggle with everybody’s best friend, chronic acne.

The piece was a digital painting, which I really enjoyed working on, although I don’t know if the acne is a little too pronounced but the brief required it to look as disgusting as possible, so I had to exaggerate the look somewhat. I was probably asked too as well by Kate. I also did some watercolour paintings as well, which don’t look great. (I haven’t painted with watercolour properly for over 12, probably more, years apart from messing around with colour in my sketchbook for the last month or so).

Master

I initially finished the piece and then asked if I could work on it some more after the invoice had been paid as originally I saw the front subject as being more one-toned (kind of like the film-noir trope) but I wanted to add more tones, along with some more pronounced and yet subtle highlights on the hand which gives it a little more depth I thought, which seemed to be lacking. But thats just my opinion.

Apparently copying the embed code will result in a video magically appearing below:

It has worked! I even added some options to the embed code and I did it all by myself.

Feel free to say hello or shower me with undeserved praise.

Underground Art

Last month I took part in the London Underground show on Regent’s Park. Along with the art in the station there was a private view at The Frameless Gallery in West London which a total of 8 people turned up to.

BD3A1931

A special feature (which I paid extra for) was having the top copy underneath the frame. I was assured this would be corrected and was overjoyed to see that it never was.

The piece is actually really old which was originally done for a scammy art show in Hong Kong at postcard size and scanned it at a stupid high resolution. Anyway I never got the originals back so the scans are all I have. Since they are so high-res I ended up throwing them on Society 6 as posters (and a couple of other POD sites but its so hard so keep up with all 3 of them)

Anyway the print, along with other stuff, is available as a print, t-shirt, mug, shower curtain (??) and other stuff on Society 6. Link below!

Feel free to say hello or shower me with undeserved praise.

Introducing The Eggs-Men!

I have a a Threadless submission which really needs attention and some big votes, so if you could find the time and dig deep I’d be very grateful for the help.

A quick and convenient signup is required if your not already involved and a preferable 5 vote would be good.
